FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, June 18, 2024) — Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott encouraged neighborhood associations across Baltimore to register their events for Baltimore’s annual National Night Out (NNO) celebrations held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
National Night Out, first started in 1984, is a nationwide annual community-building campaign that connects residents and the law enforcement personnel who serve their communities. Historically, local community associations host dozens of National Night Out events every year across the city to foster public safety by encouraging more positive relationships between residents and the police.
“National Night Out is about addressing historical distrust between residents and law enforcement, building bridges, and promoting public safety,” said Mayor Scott. “In Baltimore, we’re experiencing a historic decline in violence – which is only possible because of partnership between every level of government and community. Our accomplishments toward building a better, safer Baltimore would not be possible without the collaborative efforts of BPD, public safety partners, and our residents. National Night Out is an opportunity to celebrate these partnerships and strengthen these bonds so that we can deepen this work moving forward.”
“The BPD can’t do the work it does without the assistance, cooperation, and trust of the community,” said Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley. “National Night Out is a time-honored event that celebrates the relationships we’ve built with our residents and neighbors. Let’s all get out there and show what positive, successful collaborations look like.”
Neighborhood associations are encouraged to register their National Night Out community events online at bit.ly/nno24 by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. For more information on NNO, visit https://natw.org/.
Last year, neighborhoods across Baltimore held approximately 60 events during National Night Out where residents had the opportunity to meet and build relationships with law enforcement officers in their respective communities.
