FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD. (Thursday, June 23, 2022) - Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision in the case of NYSRPA v. Bruen.

"At a time when gun violence is rising across the country, driven by easy access to guns, the Supreme Court is trying to take us in the exact wrong direction. This decision will make it more difficult for cities like Baltimore to create actual public safety. At some point, the sanctity of American lives must outweigh the sanctity of American guns. This decision puts lives at risk and makes removing guns from our streets even more difficult. I’ve asked the law department to study the opinion to let me know all of its implications. Regardless, I will not be deterred from my work to build a better, safer future for all Baltimoreans."
