FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, March 16, 2021) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced today that Cal Harris will serve as communications director for the Mayor’s Office. Harris has worked with several mayors across the country, most notably creating the narratives that led to historic mayoral wins for Randall Woodfin (Birmingham, Ala.) and Frank Scott, Jr. (Little Rock, Ark.).

“Cal Harris understands cities and is passionate about executing strategies to engage the people and places most often overlooked in democracy,” said Mayor Scott. “He is committed to building an accessible and responsive City government that reflects the plight of everyday Baltimore residents, and I look forward to his perspective and expertise in my administration.”

As a principal at Pine Street Strategies, Harris advised several Black mayors across the nation on messaging, storytelling, and communications strategy. During the 2020 election cycle, he served as senior advisor for Nicole Galloway for Missouri and central regional communications director for Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg.

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as communications director for Mayor Scott,” said Harris. “Navigating the tough challenges ahead requires transparency and clear communication, and I am honored to fulfill this responsibility for Baltimore residents.”

Harris now leads a communications team that includes Stefanie Mavronis as deputy communications director and Sydney Burns as press secretary.

A former senior associate in SKDKnickerbocker’s Washington, D.C. office, Harris is a graduate of Morehouse College and the Heller School of Public Policy at Brandeis University. He is also a former PPIA Fellow at the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
