Baltimore Colts great and NFL Hall of Famer Lenny Moore to serve as parade grand marshal.

Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts, and the Baltimore Community Relations Commission announced the 12th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. The parade takes place on Monday, January 16 at 12:00 noon. This year, Forman Mills returns as the presenting sponsor.

The parade steps off at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street and proceeds south to Baltimore Street. Spectators are invited to watch the parade with friends and family at any point along the parade route. The reviewing stand will be located near the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Franklin Street.

The grand marshal is Football Hall of Famer Lenny Moore, sports legend and former member of the Baltimore Colts. The parade celebrates the life of one of America’s most notable civil rights activists with organizations from the mid-Atlantic region that exemplify the long-lasting values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“It will be an honor to join Lenny Moore and thousands of Baltimore residents as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “As a member of the Baltimore Colts, Lenny helped set the standard for greatness on the field. Off the field, he set another standard for commitment to community. With Lenny Moore as grand marshal, we look back to celebrate the great leaders of the past and celebrate the doors opened for our children and for generations to come.”

More than 55 groups participate in the parade, including civic organizations, colorful high school and community marching bands, honor and color guards, high-spirited cheer and dance squads, and equestrian units. Radio One hosts Konan and Lolo emcee the parade from the reviewing stand, located on the 400 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Franklin Street.

Additional sponsorship is provided by Corrigan Sports Enterprises/Baltimore Running Festival, Cricket, and Verizon Wireless. Media sponsors are Fox 45/The CW Baltimore, Radio One (92Q, Magic 95.9, Spirit 1400, WOLB 1010), The Baltimore Sun, The Afro-American Newspapers, The Baltimore Times, and Baltimore Brew.
