Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake named Ms. Brenda McKenzie as President and CEO of the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC), effective December 17, 2012. McKenzie comes to Baltimore from the Boston Redevelopment Authority with nineteen years of community and economic development experience.

More than Half of City Speed Camera Tickets Issued to Non-City Motorists in Fiscal 2012

Today, the City of Baltimore released new data showing that the majority of speed camera citations issued in Baltimore City are issued to non-city motorists, generating roughly $14.8 in citations during fiscal year 2012 from motorists with vehicles not registered within the City of Baltimore. The data implies that the majority of motorists violating speed limits in Baltimore do not live in the city

Mayor Rawlings-Blake Joins Police Commissioner Anthony Batts to Deliver New Cruisers to Baltimore Police Officers

 This morning, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts delivered the first of 80 newly purchased 2013 police cruisers to officers of the Northeast District. The vehicles, which were purchased out of the Department’s existing vehicle fleet budget, will significantly enhance the BPD’s ability to patrol neighborhoods by utilizing state of the art technology.

Mayor Rawlings-Blake Announces Mandatory Travel Restrictions on City Roads

Due to high winds and dangerous weather conditions from Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Rawlings-Blake announced mandatory travel restrictions for city roadways. Restrictions began at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Motorists must stay off the roadways. Restrictions do not apply to uniformed personnel, hospital employees, other medical providers, and Corporate Emergency Access System (CEAS) partners.

City officials are in the Emergency Operations Center monitoring the storm and conditions on the ground in Baltimore. City offices are closed tomorrow, and trash pickup is postponed.

Baltimore City Announces Liberal Leave for Monday, Parking Restrictions and Free Parking in Low-Lying Areas

Today, the City of Baltimore announced that liberal leave will be in effect for non-essential employees tomorrow, Monday, October 29, 2012. Essential employees and employees designated as emergency essential for the current incident must report to work or remain at work as scheduled. Baltimore City Public Schools are closed tomorrow.

Mayor Rawlings-Blake Activates Emergency Operations Center for Storm Response & Recovery Operations

Today at 7:00 a.m., Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake activated Baltimore’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate storm response and recovery operations between city agencies. At the Mayor Rawlings-Blake’s direction, police officers and emergency responders will be deployed throughout the city and are able to respond to any incident, and forestry and public works response crews are on stand-by. 911 and 311 are fully operational. Use 911 for emergencies only.

Mayor Rawlings-Blake Mobilizes All City Agencies to Prepare for Hurricane Sandy

Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake convened all City agency heads to immediately begin preparedness operations for Hurricane Sandy. Mayor Rawlings-Blake and City agencies are coordinating efforts to ensure that all necessary emergency response vehicles are in-service and fully fueled, and that adequate police, fire, EMS, public works, and forestry staffing plans are in place, going into the expected storm period.
