Mayor Scott Announces 2024 Annual Fall Clean-up, Community Day of Service

BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, September 18, 2024) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, alongside the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs, announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service.
Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

"Our Annual Fall Clean-up Day of Service is a chance for all the residents of Baltimore City to pitch in, lend a hand, and show pride in our neighborhoods. Let's roll up our sleeves and build a cleaner environment where we live, work, and our children play."

DPW is continually working to strengthen our connection to neighborhoods across the city, and this event demonstrates what we can accomplish when residents unite for a common goal."
How can you register for the Mayor's fall clean-up?
To participate, community associations, block leaders, and local organizations can call 311 or visit https://www.baltimorecity.gov/mayor/our-work/2024-annual-fall-cleanup/form-volunteer to register for a preferred quadrant. Residents can also visit balt311.baltimorecity.gov. Registration will close on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Communities and residents who register their cleaning activities can request collection when registering their cleaning activity. City trucks will then be scheduled to visit the specified location on the clean-up day. Individual residents participating in cleaning around their neighborhood are encouraged to register but must have their bags out for regular trash collection.
Residents who sign up for individual or blockwide cleaning can receive up to 5 bags. Community groups and neighborhood associations registering in advance can request up to 50 bags.
Where do you pick up Clean-up Bags?
Those registered for the Fall Clean-up can pick up their bags on September 17. Bags will be distributed at 2840 Sisson Street, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 111 Kane Street, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Participants must provide a service request number to receive bags to collect and dispose of the debris from the clean-up activities.
Excess trash and debris can be bagged and placed out with weekly scheduled trash collections for pickup. Residents can also bring bagged trash to the Residential Drop-Off Centers. Participants disposing of collected debris at the Residential Drop-off Centers must follow the drop-off centers' guidelines, which do not allow commercial vehicles.
DPW will not collect bulk trash items, and roll-off dumpsters will not be part of the Fall Clean-up.

How to Earn Student Service-Learning Hours by Volunteering
Students participating in the Mayor's clean-up can make a difference in their community and qualify for student service-learning hours.
Students in grades 3-12 must participate in a clean-up or greening activity hosted by the Department of Public Works (DPW), a school, organization, or group to receive service-learning hours from DPW. As a reminder, Maryland students must complete at least 75 service-learning hours for graduation.
How to Reduce Your Water Bill by Volunteering
Residents can receive a stormwater credit by participating in a registered Volunteer Community Cleanup. To be eligible for the credits, residents must register their "volunteer cleanup" with 311.
How Stormwater Credits Work
Through the Volunteer Network hub site, the registered volunteer who participated in a Volunteer Community Cleanup will be sent a Stormwater Fee Credit application and certificate to the email or mailing address indicated on the submitted Volunteer Registration Form.
Volunteers earn $10 off for each certificate. This discount can be applied up to 3 times yearly (maximum of $30 credit/year).
