Residents Should Prepare Now for the Winter Season Ahead by Assembling Emergency Supply Kits for Their Homes and Vehicles

BALTIMORE, MD (Thursday, November 6, 2025) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott was joined by Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Veronica P. McBeth along with officials from the Baltimore City Departments of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, General Services, Fire, Health, Housing and Community Development, the Office of Emergency Management, Office of Homeless Services, and the Baltimore Police Department to announce that the City of Baltimore is fully prepared for the upcoming snow season.

"I'm proud to announce that under the leadership of Transportation Director Veronica P. McBeth, the City of Baltimore has done the work to prepare for winter weather," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "But winter readiness takes all of us! For our snow removal efforts to be successful, residents need to prepare now, including by assembling emergency supply kits for both their homes and vehicles, and keeping up to date on weather reports."

The City of Baltimore's dedicated Snow Team includes personnel from the Departments of Transportation, Public Works, Recreation and Parks and General Services. With a budget of over $7.3 million, the City's snow removal efforts are extensive, with 294 pieces of equipment supported by 300 contractor apparatuses for efficient operations. The city is fully stocked with more than 15,000 tons of salt, and maintains a 36,000-gallon salt brine capacity for pretreating major gateways and thoroughfares.

During a winter storm, personnel from the Office of Emergency Management, along with the Health Department, Housing and Community Development, BCIT, Fire, the Baltimore Police Department and the Office of Homeless Services coordinate with the city's Snow Team to help keep residents safe and provide critical resources.

"We encourage all residents to prepare now and stay informed for a safe winter season," said Department of Transportation Director Veronica P. McBeth. "The safety of the traveling public is our highest priority, and we are committed to keeping city streets safe and passable this winter."

During winter storms, residents are urged to remain at home and avoid unnecessary travel. This will help our snow team treat city streets efficiently, as disabled vehicles block our plows and delay removal efforts for everyone. Residents who must travel should "take it slow on ice and snow" and be familiar with the three phases of the city's Snow Emergency Plan as parking restrictions may be implemented along designated snow emergency routes during a storm.
