FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, May 14, 2025) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP) Executive Director Dorothy Lennig released the following statements ahead of the newly constituted Baltimore City Criminal Justice Coordinating Council's (CJCC) first meeting this afternoon.

"I am grateful that we now have all of the partners back at the table so that we can dive into the work of strengthening our criminal justice system, filling in gaps, and making our processes more effective and efficient. With the start of this State-convened Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), our locally convened body will cease to meet. As part of this sunsetting, we will transition key working groups to the new body, in partnership with GOCPP, so that the important work we started in 2021 when we established our local CJCC can continue," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "This is not about politics or policy. This new body's purpose will solely be on ensuring our criminal justice system is working efficiently and effectively for all Baltimoreans with me, as Mayor of Baltimore, and the judges as co-chairs. I want to thank Governor Moore, Kim Barranco, and the team at GOCPP for their partnership and tireless work behind the scenes to make this possible."

"As a coordinating office, GOCPP recognizes the importance of bringing the State, the City, and the Judiciary together-- along with other criminal justice stakeholders-- to find process improvements to our Criminal Justice System," GOCPP Executive Director, Dorothy Lennig said. "We're looking forward to the positive changes that will come from this important effort."

The new CJCC will meet this afternoon at 2pm and will be live streamed.

For more information on the CJCC, including meeting dates, streaming links, and meeting minutes please visit GOCPP's website.
