Scott Administration Releases Interactive Tracker to Allow Public to Follow Along With, Monitor Progress

BALTIMORE, MD. (Wednesday, December 8, 2021) – Today on the one-year anniversary of his inauguration as Mayor of the City of Baltimore, Mayor Brandon M. Scott outlined his Action Plan for the term ahead and beyond. Since taking office in December 2020, the Scott administration has been working to operationalize the Mayor's vision for Baltimore, building from the Mayor's transition team recommendations and working in partnership with City agency leadership – all while dealing with the dual public health emergencies of COVID-19 and the ongoing violence epidemic. The resulting Goals and Actions from that process make up the Mayor's Action Plan released publicly today.

“I strongly believe that to make progress, we must set ambitious goals and work every day to achieve them,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I want to invite residents to follow along with our progress and hold my administration accountable as we prove that a new way forward is possible in Baltimore. I look forward to working with all Baltimoreans to build on the foundations we have set over the past year and transform Baltimore into the stronger, better, safer place to live that we all know it can be.”

You can view the Mayor's Action Plan by clicking here. The Mayor released the Action Plan is an interactive tool, which allows the public to see the Goals and Actions the administration is setting out to accomplish, as well as their status and key measurements. 

Many of the Actions are already underway or, in some cases, completed. The Action Plan Tracker will be updated on a quarterly basis, allowing the public to follow along with the administration’s progress over the term.

In alignment with the Mayor’s commitment to accountability and transparency, this tool allows residents to see the goals the administration is committed to making significant progress on and accomplishing over this term, organized into the Mayor’s five priority pillars: Building Public Safety, Prioritizing Youth, Clean and Healthy Communities, Equitable Neighborhood Development, and Responsible Stewardship of City Resources. 

“The Mayor’s Action Plan is a clear organizing framework and road map for the remainder of the Mayor’s first term. Our executive team and the entire city workforce will be using the goals and actions in the plan to direct how we administer programs and prioritize the use of city resources," said Baltimore City Administrator Christopher Shorter. "We hope that all residents, business, and community partners use this plan to hold us accountable and find opportunities to collaborate and participate with us as we work together to build a better Baltimore."

Like the 100 Day of Action Tracker released by Mayor Scott in February, the Mayor’s Action Plan builds on the work of the Mayor’s transition team, more than 250 committed Baltimoreans — including young people, community advocates, business leaders, current and former government officials, artists, and academics — who generated clear recommendations to build a new way forward for Baltimore. That transition report was taken up by the Mayor’s executive team and agency leaders, who considered how to bring those recommendations, as well as other improvements, to life for the benefit of residents.

The Action Plan seeks to establish measurable goals and intentionally reverse course from outdated policies and strategies that have not yielded results in the past. 

In his first year in office, the Mayor has already made substantial progress in helping Baltimore through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and laying the groundwork to operationalize his administration’s vision for a safer and more equitable city, beginning implementation of the Mayor’s Comprehensive Violence Prevention Plan, working to restore control of the Baltimore Police Department, establishing the Digital Equity Framework, and bringing government operations into the 21st century. 

The Action Plan Tracker was produced by the Office of Performance and Innovation using R Shiny, an open-source web app development tool built on the R statistical computing language. 

“We were thrilled for the chance to develop the tracker for the plan so residents can follow the City’s progress,” said Dan Hymowitz, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Performance and Innovation. “This is another way that Mayor Scott is demonstrating his commitment to increasing government transparency.”
